Historic religious pilgrimage route that already in the Middle Ages connected a large part of Europe to Rome, Via Francigena still today is a road that attracts thousands of travelers every year.
A cultural itinerary that crosses ancient villages and enchanting landscapes.
The last stretch is made up of the stages that lead from Siena to Rome. From the Crete Senesi to the Val d'Orcia, the ancient road runs along the hills and vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino to continue south towards S. Quirico d'Orcia.
Recommended experience for lovers of travelling on the road and for those who simply want to take a nice walk on a beaten path.
Journey
The first village that we cross is Buonconvento, whose city centre deserves a visit. Walk along a track parallel to the street towards Montalcino, leave it and undertake the route rich in dream-like views of Val d’Orcia, along white streets leading to Torrenieri. Then you walk on a disused track along Via Cassia, still asphalted, to arrive in San Quirico, welcoming you with a marvellous collegiate church. Road-houses and water are only in the inhabited centres of Buonconvento e Torrenieri.
